Janitorial

By Zhenyi Tan

The problem with making a YouTube-related browser extension these days is that your users will associate any YouTube-related problems with you.

… even if the problems are caused by YouTube itself or their adblockers. (YouTube has clearly said, “Turn off your adblockers, or we won’t let you watch videos.” But 🤷🏻‍♂️)

This happens so much that I don’t even want to talk about YouTube’s latest shenanigans anymore.

If I talk about it, people will say, “You talked about the problem, but you didn’t give a solution. So, your extension doesn’t fix the problem. I give it one star.”

If writing extensions to make the web tolerable feels like janitorial work, then writing extensions to make YouTube tolerable must feel like scrubbing a gas station bathroom in the U.S.
