Twitter Replacements

By Zhenyi Tan

Out of the 3 Twitter replacements, Bluesky remains invite-only. Threads seems to have inherited the bad parts of Twitter. Mastodon seems to have inherited the good parts of Twitter. But I’m still not using any of them heavily, for various reasons.

Bluesky

Bluesky is… I really don’t know much about Bluesky. When I checked the accounts of people I know, I saw that their last post was like 3 months ago. And their accounts have like 2-3 posts.

There are a few people who are quite active on Bluesky. But, their posts don’t really interest me.

Threads

Threads has a lot of users. But, it also has a lot of problems. The crypto scammers are there. The engagement farmers are there. The company accounts that post unfunny memes are also there.

The problem is, the general public is also there. This means that if you’re looking to reach a wider audience (say, if you’re an app developer targeting non-nerds), you also have to be there.

Mastodon

Mastodon is complicated. A lot of the people I used to follow on Twitter are now on Mastodon. And, a lot of my Twitter followers have also moved to Mastodon.

But the people there seem to get offended by every topic, so I’m scared to post anything unless it’s about my app business. Also, I’m really afraid of being seen as a reply guy, so I don’t feel comfortable replying to anything.

So in the end, I just post here. 😬
